Hi Steve,

Thanks for your thoughts on the Vacu-Rak... And I think you're right... The VR system is just a "placeholder" ... The lines to the front and back of the car will provide a good chunk of the real hold-down power. Thankfully both the front and back of the underside of the car's frame have great locations for "S" hooks on both the left- and right-hand sides.

When I was a kid, I saw a canoe break free from a car and collide with the windshield of an oncoming car... Trust me, when I'm done, it will take a crane to pull the kayak off the car.

As for the question about the station wagon... How right you are... "Plain Jane" station wagons are "out" (unless they have a hemi like the Chrysler product) and mini vans are in... These days, an economical (yet powerful (with low-end gearing)) station wagon should be easy to make... But don't hold your breath. Seems that our culture just has to have DVD players, 300 watt stereo systems, and a top end of 130 mph.
