I take it you are using the pads as tie-downs, and there will be padding between the kayak and the car. You could also run tie-down straps through the door apertures, in which case the suckers become redundant, Having straps run through the car at top-of-your-head height can be irritating, but it works. The fact that the MC13 is short and has a flat bottom makes this sort of improvisation easier.
