I built the sh 16 and weigh about 165. It paddle great, is very responsive and some far more advanced (about same size) paddlers than myself have paddled it and commented that it has a great glide and tracks well. It rolls nicely once you get the fit right. I do think that perhaps I would like the 17 foot better because I do want to do an overnight from time to time and have noticed that when loaded up the boat sinks enough that paddling becomes much less efficient. For day trips at 165 it is a joy to paddle.
