Not sure Bill meant that he had scarfed the cockpit area joints together, rather that he had scarfed the bow tip on as prescribed.
For the forward deck I recommend A) a helper and B) two tie-down straps, one over the deckbeam, and one over the forward bulkhead. For that pesky area between forward bulkhead and bow, have your helper press down firmly on the overhanging deck. This will create the necessary deck radius.
