I actually have non-skid tape behind the coamings of my race tandem for this very reason. The tape is functional but very ugly and out of place on a pretty wooden boat. I wouldn't add such to any of my other kayaks just because of how bad it looks.
And I do not have perimeter lines on my kayaks. I'll have to think about my wet entry a bit to decide if it would accommodate holding onto lines. If they were very tight it might work ok but I'm almost thinking that if they were that tight I would have trouble getting my hands under the lines for each grab. I slide up from the back of the boat sliding my hands along the sides. I guess the only way to find out is to outfit one boat and see.
