If you plan this boat for yourself and don't need the extra inch of leg space, AND the boat lines look fair, I suggest you leave the bulkhead (BH) as is. Fillet along the hull bottom and lay fiberglass (FG) tape or cloth on one side of the BH. On the other side of the BH, use woodflour to fill the gap if you wish or just lay more FG--it will hold. All those FG kayaks out there have 'glass BHs with NO plywood.

If you have average size legs and really want more storage space, cut another BH to fit several inches further back. :)
