From my experience, shearclamps can always be added. However, they do add unneeded weight. I prefer them though. I just like the extra wood there at the edge of the deck. If the boat takes a side impact or is set on its side for extended periods, the shearclamps add strength. It does make it easier to attach the deck. I am building a Point Bennet from rollordrown.com and he does not call for shearclamps, but I am using them anyway. :) Don't sell your kit. Just build the boat the way you want. There are no rules. It's your boat.
