"Never, Never, never ask Kurt about finishes"...??? Seems like a pretty good field report on how an unvarnished paddle holds up under real-world conditions.

Shame that epoxy and oil finishes don't get along well. Ain't noth'n better then a hand rubbed oil finish on use'n wood like tool handles and gun stocks. And ain't noth'n gonna fray a paddle tip like oyster shells.

So Kurt, keep on experiment'n and you'll get it down eventually.
