I probably should mention why I use epoxy in the first place. It's 'cuz I've learned to armor my tips with fiberglass. I use 3.25-oz fine weave cloth from Raka, cut on the bias... it conforms perfectly, and yields tons of durability. Epoxy also eliminates fuzzing (read: splintering) along the balance of the paddle.

My next best favorite finish is none at all -- a solid cedar paddle with nothing on it whatsoever. You end up with the fuzzies on an ultimately gray paddle, but oh, what a grippy little stick you git!
