You can't, but there's nothing that says you have to. Fix the top of the deck first, continue with the construction and once you've cut the hatch holes, fix the underside of the deck. It'll be fine getting fixed in that order.

A save is definitely possible, and shouldn't even be that much extra work. And if you do what the other guys are talking about with inlays, onlays, etc., it'll even look as if you meant to do it that way.
