Best GPS for Kayaking

My wife wants to get me a GPS for my birthday that I will primarily use when kayaking. We were hoping to get one for as modest a price as possible. Does anyone have suggestions of units they have had good experience with in the moderate price range. The ability to download "blue charts" would be nice but isn't crucial.
