Rubrails on Shearwater?
Posted by David K. on Apr 22, 2006
Before I bought my Shearwater 17 Kit, I wrote to ask "Rubrails or no?" Having seen the "Zen" video, and read CK's "New Kayak Shop", I had assumed the Shearwater had sheer clamps, like the CH's. Now I have my gorgeous, beautifully engineered Shearwater kit (with extra rubrails), all laid out, and I see there are no sheer clamps in this design. I'm afraid that it is not appropriate to nail rubrails onto the side panels, with nothing beyond slender ply to catch the brads. Thoughts?
