But why bother? When I built my Ches-16, I flirted with the idea of attaching rub rails. I am glad I decided not to do so. While I usually launch from a beach, occassionally I do use a dock where rub rails might prevent some damage. However, I have not experienced any chipped or scratched paint, and certainly no damage to the boat. I do not think rub rails are necessary, and I like the look without them better than the boats I have seen that do have them.
