I also have a terrible back problem.Playing football when younger and working 19 years for Fed. Ex.I Have had pinched nerves down my left leg to the point of doing damage.As my back got better,I exercised by doing moderate work outs and sit ups.I always developed back problems when I would get a small gut on me[this is the season for it].The weaker muscles do not give good back support.I have also worried about my back handling Kayaking.My advice is to take it slow and easy,giving your back time to build up its strength.Good luck:Fred a first time builder.
