I'd put just a heel patch down,,maybe 6"x8" or so. If you're going to have damage from regular use it'll be something totally off the wall like falling off a car roof and dinging the ends and edges of the coaming, or poorly tied down and rubbing against other boats/rack, or doing a three stoogles maneuver carrying it around a corner whacking a hard object.
