If I were setting up a John's Sharpie with sprit rig sails, I think I would consider putting a boom on the after sail and going boomless on the forsail. There is not a lot of length or width to the hull aft of the clew on the aft sail. But there is a lot of room to set up a great sheeting angle on the forsail without a boom.

Just out of curiosity, I'd love to see the drawing John was talking about. John, would you consider posting it here?
