I have several carved seats. The ones with the deepest carving are the ones I like the best, in that they minimize the need for tight-fitting hip pads and seemed to be more comfy on long paddles.
I also have two that are carved very shallow (for technical reasons that I won't get into). These are pretty comfy for shorter paddles, but not as stabile as the deeply carved ones.
As you're a cat pee guru, you probably know that copious application of white vinegar is effective. I deoderized a leather sofa to the point that my wife, with her very astute nose, can't detect it.
