Re: When safe to tape pai

With line taping, the more cured the paint is the better, in my experience. I've had some problems using the 3M fineline over paint and varnished that wasn't well cured, particularly if you leave it on overnight or in hot weather.

I have had luck using the 3M safe release paper tape on new paint/varnish. It's not quite as good as fineline, but if you use a brand new roll, with no nicks in it or fuzzies stuck to it, and roll down the edge with a wallpaper roller (small rolling pin might work also, for all you bakers) you can get a surprisingly sharp edge with less risk of lifting less-than-well-cured paint.

Hope this advice gives you and edge in your project.
