Hatch lip width

Sure this has been asked and answered. How wide should the lip be on the insde/underside of the hatch opening to accomadate the water tite seal of the hatch cover? Not a run on sentence izzit? Hope to be launching this beast soon!! Also I used a carbon mask and goggles; but my eyes are irritated from sanding of fiberglass, any remedy you know of? Using eye drops.
