Have you heard of anyones boat actually catching fire from an endpour? I don't know if it could get that hot, but I've heard of burned surboards from polyester resins going off too hot. I knew about this problem from surfboard making and had the water hose ready when I did mine, I did get a lot of smoking but thankfully no fire.
BTW last time I found some good dam making material, some foam from an old foam sleeping pad (for camping). I cut it slightly oversize and stuffed it into place. It filled all the irregular spaces and I had no leaking. Didn't need tape or playdo. Of course the foams a permanent part of the boat but no on sees in there anyway.
