Actually the technical input about the 5/8 radius came from Laszlo. I wish I could take the credit but Laszlo is a lot smarter.
A 5/8 radius is a pretty good rule of thumb, and the measuring gauge is pretty cheap. As you get into more obtuse angles between the side and bottom panels towards the ends of the boat the 5/8 radius fillet gets a little shallow and the volume of the fillet ain't much.
Of course the angle at the keel gets more acute towards the ends so the fillet volume increases.
But, it is important to have the radiused fillet instead of a crease. If nothing else, it is a lot easier to get the tape to stay in a radiused corner then a sharp one.
