Thanks for sharing your experience. I am building a small rowing/sailing boat right now, and over on WoodenBoat forum it's always "don't modify the plans without consulting the designer" for changes to the hull so it hadn't really occurred to me that I could do that with this project. I suppose kayaks might be a more forgiving design environment. Perhaps I will buy a set of 14 plans and mull them over a bit.
