We do have "some" experiance in cold water, even doing practice rescues throught the year. We have had a few real rescues that went well because we try to get everyone to try it from both sides - being the rescuer and the rescuee.

And there have been times when we drove to the boat launch and decided that the combination of ice and current made it a bad idea to go any further.
