I know boatbuilders with dust allergies. It's always possible that it was something else somewhere in the chain of events (I got knackered by mold in my basement while doing some woodworking down there), but an allergist will tell you for sure.
Dust can be a sensitizer like epoxy but hopefully, if the dust is the cause, you can take precautions, using dust collecting sanders and respiratory protection to keep you in the game. I have a sensitivity to okoume and epoxy dust and I have to be careful to use a dust mask and dust collection equipment but luckily not the full Tyvek suit treatment.
