bright finish scratches

Some minor scratches in the bright finish show how much fun we have had with our two CLC boats - an CH17 and CH17LT. Im planning to buff them out with 400 grit and then add another coat or two of varnish unless someone has a better idea. (Is that going to be enough grit? Will hand sanding it do it?) Thanks much for all the advice!
