Steve, this is one of the great aspects of this forum; casual reading of it can give heads up on the unexpected, as well as valuable tips and techniques, making for a more enjoyable and successful building experience.
I'm the one with the previous overflowing end pours which I posted here for that very purpose. So glad that you were able to avoid the hastles.
No written set of directions can address all aspects of construction (without becoming an encyclopedic volume), but if this is a reoccurring issue, perhaps CLC can add a little warning text in the next printing?
