Expanding end-pours
Posted by Steve on Aug 24, 2005
Not too long ago somebody noted here that their end-pours expanded and overflowed. I am reporting that the same thing just happened to me. The conditions: Temperature 70 degrees F, Low humidity, each end-pour was three pumps of System Three Silvertip epoxy and hardener mixed with wood flour to a runny pancake batter consistency. Within two hours, the thickened epoxy mixture in each one had expanded in volume by about 15 to 20 percent, causing some epoxy to overflow the ends and ooze down the sides of the boat. Because I had read about this problem here, I was expecting it, and had protected that area with clear packing tape. After it hardens the mess should be easy to clean up. Thanks for the Heads-up.
