I agree with Howard. Ten years ago, we lined up rubrails flush with the top of the deck. It made logical sense and looked nice. But five or six years later, water had found a way into the endgrain of the deck and created stains. We updated all of the manuals to promote 'glass decks with rounded deck edges, with the rubrail mounted a bit lower on the hull.
Rounding the deck edge so that you can bring the deck 'glass over the edge and down onto the side of the hull creates a much stronger joint. And boy, does that hull-to-deck joint see abuse over 5-10 years.
