Dennis,

I just cut the hatch openings on my CH18 and I used the "Install the deck-cut the openings-glass the deck" method with no problems.

On my MC15,I used the nifty little Japaneese saw because I had ordered it with my kit. On the wife's Ch 17 and on my Ch 18, I used my trusty old Sears saber saw with a fine toothed, tapered back blade because you can accomplish the same thing in 1/3 the time as you can with the great little Japaneese saw!

And yes, it is easier to cut either way without the glass.
