First you need to have something on both bow and stern to tie the ropes to. I mounted a small bitt on the bow and padeye on the stern deck, screwed into solid wood backing plates that were previously glued to sides and sheer clamps prior to installing the deck.

Here you can see two ropes, the red one will carry the load, while the blue serves for correcting the stern position. Note the ladders extended from the balcony for a 3m from where the red line hangs.
