Gorden. The 5/8 extention is half the width of a scarf. By extending the length of the half panels the two halves are identical and the scarfs are exactly in the center of the hull. The 10/8 scarf is for 4mm plywood. You notice the plans for the Sas 16 call for a 1" extention and a 2" scarf on 6mm plywood.
