I got into big trouble doing this.

I assumed the ratio by weight was the same as the ratio by volume. Your epoxy will not cure if you get the ratio wrong. At least mine didn't.

Find out the correct weight ratio and then try a small batch to see if it cures.

Also, if you are doing small batches, make sure you have a very accurate scale.
