For your first boat I would stick with a CLC, fewer pieces. 17 Ches would be fine. I am building a WD Solace 16 XL Let you know how it turns out, good kit and good manual. Proof is in the pudding, we`ll see. Good luck. Buy CLC`s Zen building DVD, will help.
