WR18 stern & bow strips

Posted by Mike D on Jun 5, 2005

Thanks to Lee, Paul, Laszlo, & Mislav for the guidance on putting the layers of bias cut glass on the bow & stern.

The rotary cutter & cutting mat are absolutely the best way to cut unfrayed strips of glass cloth - almost magic it works so well.

Brushed on the epoxy, placed the glass strips & wet them out, more daubing then brushing. Same for the second layer. Then put the plastic sheet over the fresh glass & 'poxy and smoothed out the air bubbles.

Need a bit of work on the PE sheet trick. I did use some 4 mill sheet but am having a bit of a problem with wrinkles. Oh well, it did everything else as advertised; filled the weave and looks like it will leave a very smooth surface except for the wrinkles. The carbide scarper will deal with those.

When all else fails - read the instructions. A couple of searches turned up exactly what to do about putting fill coats over cured 'poxy. Thanks John.
