I always wipe down everything with denatured alchohol and let it dry before I apply epoxy. Maybe I don't need to, but then again, I've never had any problems with adhesion failures except the one time I don't remember wiping it down. But my work area is pretty dusty, so maybe I'm a special case.

Mac is right about the grain being raised by liquids. That's a good reason to wipe down with alcohol, wait for a bit, sand again, and wipe down a last time. You'll have a piece of wood as smooth as a baby's bottom (and a lot less trouble).
