Install the backband per instructions first. It can be adjusted fore and aft fairly easy. Then sit the boat in the grass or on cushions and experiment with seat placement, hip braces, and so on.

The plywood hip braces may not be necessary with the Happy Bottom Pad depending on your fit in the kayak.
