for preventing wear (vs creating a non-skid surface) another layer of 6 oz cloth where your heals will be is the way to go.

depending on your level of precision in determining where your heals will be...you will not need a lot of cloth/epoxy to do this.

simply sand the existing surface where you need the extra protection with 80/100 grit. then mask the area with duct tape. precut a rectangular piece of cloth slightly large than the masked area..and epoxy it in. while it is still green...cut the cloth along the duct tape edge and remove the excess cloth/tape. this will give your rub pads a nice professional look.

several fill coats...and you are ready to go.
