After rolling on epoxy (or other thick stuff) you use a foam brush (or other tool of choice) to "tip" out the bubbles and other flaws so you have a smooth surface. Just drag it loosely over the surface. It's one of my favorite epoxy steps. The surface smooths out rather magically before your very eyes!
