If you're building from plans for a shorter person, a person who would fit into a Ch14,,say someone 5'2" you might consider a smaller cockpit coaming. A standard 17"x31" coaming fits folks in the 5'8"-6'2" range perfectly, that's why it's in the big kayaks. It's big for someone who's not tall so their knees/thighs don't fit under the thigh brace portion of the coaming without splaying their knees apart a LOT. Going from plans you could make this change easily,,using the dimensions of the older Patuxent coamings. Something around 16"x29" or smaller.
