Carlins proud at aft bulk

I am getting ready to install the deck on my MC 16.5 and wondering what to do about my carlins. When I glued them in I noticed that they stuck up above top of the aft bulckhead (about 1/4 inch) but I figured this was normal. As I look at the plans it seems they are flush with the top of the bulckhead. It appears that the notch in the bulckhead that they fit into was not deep enough. Should I plane them down to flush at the bulckhead?...to keep the 30" radius... Will that compromise the structural integrity of anything?
