Just to add into what Terry was saying, I installed said brass half oval strips on the ends of my CH18. While I haven't whacked the nose yet against anything, I can tell you that having the brass on the stern makes a difference every time I load the boat onto the racks on my truck. I have no fear of letting the stern rest on the pavement/sand/whatever while I set the bow up onto the racks. I know I'm not beating up the wood/glass on the ends (thanks Terry).
