I assume by 5-ply you mean 6mm. If you've done that you have added significant weight to the top of the boat and glassing over it will put even more weight on top. Epoxy is an excellent sealant for wood. No paint locks on like epoxy. But epoxy doesn't always lay flat so sanding is necessary. Dry sanding is best because there is no chance of wetting the wood if you sand thru' the epoxy. If you wet the wood you'll have to kill time waiting for it to dry. Charlie
