It depends on your criteria. The bottom line is a great motivator. Plastic/fiberglass manufacturers in the US tend to spit out new designs like crazy. The growing businesses get bought up by people outside the activity and they focus on what they know which is manufacturing and sales so anything that drives manufacturing and sales is what works. Look at Necky, Perception, Wilderness Systems, etc. Some have new models every year, some have models last for ten years, some get bought up and consolidated with old lines retired. The shape of what works in the water and a human with a paddle hasn't changed. But for some reason there are dozens of expensive molds for rotomolded and composite hulls that are 'better' than last years model. It works.
