'It depends. How much gap ya gonna have? If it's a small amount, I think you could plane the sheer down to meet the radius, recognizing you will also lose some 'height' in the cockpit. Alternative is to plane the sheers, apply the deck, then fill the space with dookie . I did that, used a plastic-covered 'dam' on each side to keep the thickened epoxy home, and the result was very acceptable; gives the surface of the dookie a shiny, 'finished' look, too. Either way works.
