Try to use a silicone-free buffing compound if possible, but don't lose any sleep over it. You can clean the hull with solvent if you need to effect a repair.

At shows we use Pledge (!) on the hulls to shine them up, and that's got every contaminant in it. We never have any trouble cleaning up and refinishing every few years.
