Beginner Sailboat

Howdy all! I live in NW Oregon. I have many lakes, rivers and other type waterways around me. I have fairly good wooodworking skills but ZERO sailing skills. I boat some, but usually small craft for lake fishing etc. What do you think would be a good starter craft to approach with sailing in mind? Appreciate any sane comments!
