Gober,
Did you apply with a roller or a squeegee? The roller adds epoxy to the top of the weave pattern as well as the hollows, so you just keep repeating the image of the cloth. A squeegee fills in the hollows and scrapes off the high points. My guess is you have enough epoxy and can begin to sand. Do a bit until it feels smooth and is an even grey with no shiny spots. Then wet it. If it looks clear - then you haven't hit the glass and away you go. There is an excellent acticle by John Harris here on the CLC site in the tips section about filling glass.
