It's human nature to respond this way to such a loss; and Kurt is right, we all tend to 'shoot from the hip'; but I believe the media counts on this. How much interest would there have been in this story, if we'd heard the whole thing up front? Look how much interest has been generated here.

And learning from this, in spite of the tragedy, in spite of what appears to have been very good organization, is important. Maybe most important. (Anyone read "Deep Trouble"? This is Chapter 12, I suspect)
