Uh, we were speaking of a sort of planing plate mounted at deck level. Even in a sailing West River 180 it'd only touch the water rarely, like when you surfed down a wave at 10 knots and punched into the back of the next wave. In that case you'd be glad for a little lift. Almost all kayaks would.
