The other option, especially if you're tall, is to just put the far end of the rail up against the forward bulkhead and adjust the height so it roughly matches the ball of your foot in a seated position.
Or, you could measure on the short side and move the bulkhead back, giving you more cargo space in the forward compartment of the boat. (Extra flotation or cargo spaceis always good.) That's what I would have done if I'd thought it through enough before installing the bulkhead.
